Notes from Channel 2 Segment 1/13/16.
So I’ll admit I’m one of those people who loves to set goals every new year. But many people are not and that’s ok. Goals are simply a tool to give us more clarity of the direction we want to go in our lives. I have found certain steps that can make goal setting and achieving fun and doable.
- First things first: take some time write them down. The physical writing down of a goal is the most important thing. And when you write the goal write it as if it’s already happened. (For example: I have lost 40 lbs.)
- Second tip: Once you’ve written your goals down. Write 1-2 mini daily habits under each goal that will support that goal. (The smaller the daily habit the better). For example: I will exercise for 5 minutes each day.
- The reason mini daily habits can be more effective than saying something like I will exercise for 30 min 5 times a week is because a person will be able to be more consistent with a mini action. Many days a person will end up exercising much more than 5 minutes but even on a hectic day this mini action is achievable and before you know it you’ve created a habit.
- Consistency is one of the most powerful tools in creating good habits which in turn help us reach our goals.
- Bonus tip : At the beginning of each week to look over your goals and then choose 3-5 actions outside of your daily habits that will help you get closer to achieving some of your goals.
- Write 3-5 actions down because you won’t want to forget them because you are going to commit 100% to doing them that week. By doing this you will do so many beneficial things this year that without this step you may not gone the extra mile to do them.
- Tracking: If you have a smart phones use an app/notes or even write this on an index card. Make a list of your goals and the mini habits under each one.
- Each week review your goals and commit to your daily and weekly 3-5 actions
Here is just a couple healthy habits that will help a lot with you health and weight loss goals.
- Eating a carb/protein balanced snack between meals. This will help keep blood sugar balanced and keep our craving down.
- Here are some super easy items to keep handy for a quick and healthy snack.
IDEAS:
- Clementine & String Cheese
- Cottage cheese and peaches
- 1 serving Healthy Choice Chicken Noodle Soup
- Dannon Light and Fit Greek Yogurt
You’ll want to keep snacks between 1-200 calories and make sure they have atleast 8 grams of protein.
And what about dinner time? It’s dinner time and everyone is starving. Well Pizza and fast food are not the only fast options. There are healthy meals that can be just as fast.
- Costco Talapia with green beans
- Costco Chicken Masala and prechopped bell peppers and onions to easily sautee
- Cook up a quick Omelet with veggies of your choice
All of these meals take just minutes to make and are filled with lots of protein, fiber, and vitamins and my kids love all of these meals.
Once you decide you are ready for change, implementing some of these ideas will help shape your belief and confidence in yourself and your ability to succeed.
I hope you make this year your best one yet!
